Nightclub Tycoon - The next big thing!

I simply LOVE tycoon games! City planning and building, business building, resource management etc. RTS games fall into some of these categories from time to time, but they are more focused on the action and army management than in resource management, and although I still love a good Command and Conquer, Total Annihilation or Age of Empires, sometimes I just want to sit down and build stuff.

Also, simulation games are in high demand lately... which is strange; people are now relaxing by... simulating work? 🤣

Titles like Supermarket Simulator, "software company" tycoons, and even those "garage" or "gas station" management games are strangely very well rated on platforms like Steam or Epic. And frankly, I do understand. While you're still simulating work, it's just that: a simulation. A game. You can stop whenever you want! You can freeze time, stop for a day or two, even a week, get back and continue from where you left as if nothing happened.

Ah, and by the way, big difference: you're the OWNER of those business! You're in charge! YOU make the decisions! If it succeeds, the glory is all yours. But if it fails... well, there's no one else to blame but yourself. It's an experiment, a life lesson, training? Regardless, it's FUN!

Our project

The idea for Nightclub Tycoon is that you'll start from the bottom. You have some money to invest and you decide to open a Tiki Bar with it. You can rent or buy the venue. Then you need to hire the staff, or do the work yourself! Caution, though, because if you decide to be cheap, just make sure you can run fast enough to complete all the tasks in time. Customers can be nasty... make sure they don't bring weapons to your establishment. Are they drinking too much? They can barf on your floor. Are the bathrooms clean enough? Do they have toilet paper in it? Do you have enough liquor in stock? How about napkins, straws, glasses, cleaning products? Are you sure all customers are paying their checks before leaving?!

The Tiki Bar

As the player, you get to control your character and do all that stuff manually by clicking, right-clicking and typing keys on your keyboard. Hiring staff to fill certain positions can be the difference between having to click a hundred things on your screen or just a dozen or so... but, again, it's YOUR decision!

If you make enough money, you can decide if you want to upgrade to a proper club by selling the bar and buying a better venue, or you can keep both! In order to keep both, you have to hire a manager that will take your place, but take a good look at their resumes before hiring! The quality of your managers can mean the difference between making double the money or having to close one of your establishments!

As you progress in the game, you can continue to grow your empire and buy increasingly more expensive properties - which in turn will attract better clientele, but it will also be more expensive to maintain - and, if you make all the right decisions, deal with all the important problems and invest in all the right places… well, then maybe, MAYBE you’ll become the richest man in the city!

Community and Online Ranking

My idea is to create an Online Ranking with the top 10 Tycoons, ranking their properties according to what the “clients say” about them (the average opinion of the customers when they go to the clubs), the relative value of each property owned and the current amount of money in their accounts. This will encourage you, the player, to be part of our community (I hope!) and actively compete with other players to be the biggest entrepreneur of all times!

As always, participation is optional and it doesn’t change a thing on your game, it’s just a fun and healthy way to brag about your management skill on our website! 😉

Ah, yes! Pictures of your clubs will be accepted, so if you want to showcase your best, most elegant and well organised properties, just take screenshots of your clubs and send us! They will be part of your file and shown on our rank… until someone else surpasses you, of course!

Timeline and current state

At the time of this writing, the game is in its initial stage, inception. I’m thinking about all the features I would like to implement for the final version of this game, the stripping a lot of stuff out for the Minimum Viable Product, or MVP, also known as version 1.0 of the game. Just like all my projects, I like to have a clear idea of what I want the game to be, to feel and to look like. I take time to evaluate what’s fun and what’s just annoying. Then I start to create a bunch of tasks on some Kanban board, and then I break big tasks into smaller ones so I can tackle them more easily. This planning process takes time, but it’s essential for me to be able to start any project without having to try to remember what’s next.

Then the asset gathering starts: images, models, music, audio effects and anything else needed to create the game.

Then, and only then, I can think about starting to write some code. And start the Twitch lives for you beautiful sausages!

Conclusion

This project is 100% Mocho Indie Studio! No other companies involved, which means I have complete freedom to decide where this is going and how to do things! Which also means that your support, suggestions and opinions will make ALL the difference for this project!
